FAQ
Frequently asked questions about WobblePic.
Installation & Setup
Is WobblePic free?
Yes! WobblePic is completely free to use for both personal and commercial purposes.
Which operating systems are supported?
WobblePic is available for Windows 10/11 and macOS (both Apple Silicon and Intel Mac). iOS and Android versions are planned for the future. See the Download page for platform-specific installers.
Which Mac should I download — Apple Silicon or Intel?
Download the Apple Silicon (arm64) version if you have an M1, M2, M3, or M4 Mac — it uses the Neural Engine via CoreML for fast AI segmentation. Download the Intel (x64) version for older Macs with Intel processors — it uses ONNX Runtime on CPU. If you're not sure, click the Apple menu → About This Mac to check your chip.
Does WobblePic show a security warning on macOS?
No. Since v1.4.6 the macOS build is code-signed with an Apple Developer ID and notarized by Apple, so it opens with a normal double-click on macOS Sequoia and earlier — no Privacy & Security detour and no Terminal command. (If you are still on an older unsigned build and saw the warning, simply download v1.4.6 or later from the Download page.)
What are the system requirements?
Both Windows and macOS need at least 4 GB RAM and about 600 MB of disk space. Windows requires a GPU with OpenGL 3.3+; macOS requires Sequoia or later. See the Download page for full platform-specific requirements.
What image formats are supported?
WobblePic supports JPG, JFIF, PNG, BMP, GIF, WebP, TIFF, AVIF, and HEIC/HEIF formats.
Features
What is AI Segmentation?
AI Segmentation uses SAM2 (Segment Anything Model 2) to automatically detect objects in your image. Once an object is segmented, only that area wobbles while the background stays fixed — making the effect much more realistic and fun!
Can I use WobblePic without the SAM2 model?
Yes! Without SAM2, the entire image area will wobble when you drag it. Segmentation is optional — WobblePic works perfectly fine without it.
Do I need a GPU?
On Windows, a GPU with OpenGL 3.3 support is required for the core wobble rendering, and a DirectML-compatible GPU (AMD, NVIDIA, or Intel) accelerates AI Segmentation. On macOS, any modern Mac works — Apple Silicon uses the Neural Engine via CoreML for fast segmentation, while Intel Macs run ONNX Runtime on CPU. Without GPU acceleration on Windows, segmentation falls back to CPU mode (slower but functional).
How does the physics simulation work?
WobblePic uses a mass-spring system to simulate soft-body physics. Your image is converted into a mesh of points connected by springs. When you drag the image, forces propagate through the mesh, creating realistic wobble, jiggle, and bounce effects. Read our tech deep dive for the full details.
Can I export or save the wobble animation?
Yes! Press Ctrl+R (or use the right-click menu) to record your wobble interactions as a WebP animation. The drag, any pins, and the post-release bounce are all captured in one file. Press Ctrl+R again to stop. Recording stops automatically after 30 seconds as a safety limit. See the Tutorial for the full workflow.
Can WobblePic play animated GIFs and WebPs?
Yes. WobblePic plays animated WebP, GIF, and APNG files in the main view. A controls bar appears at the bottom-left when an animated image is open, and you can press Space to toggle play/pause. Click or drag the image at any time to instantly rewind to the first frame and start wobbling that frame. See the Tutorial for details.
Why does Space stop navigating to the next image when I open an animated GIF?
When an animated image is loaded, Space toggles animation play/pause instead of navigating to the next image — so you can play and pause without reaching for the mouse. To navigate between images, use the arrow keys (Down for next, Up for previous) or Backspace for previous. Those always work regardless of the loaded image format.
What is the File Explorer panel?
The File Explorer is a built-in panel that lets you browse and open images from your folders without leaving WobblePic. You can navigate directories, preview images, and quickly switch between files — all from within the app. It also supports right-click context menus, inline rename, and clipboard (Cut/Copy/Paste) just like Windows Explorer.
What is the Pin feature?
While dragging, press Right-click or P to pin the deformation in place. The image stays stretched even after you release the mouse. You can pin up to 4 spots simultaneously and wobble other areas. Click a red dot to release a pin, or press ESC to release all.
Can I adjust the wobble physics?
Yes! Open the Settings panel (gear icon at top-right) to adjust Elasticity (how stretchy), Bounce (how bouncy), and Selection Range (segmentation sensitivity). Changes apply in real-time and are saved automatically.
Troubleshooting
The app won't start or the screen is black.
Make sure your GPU drivers are up to date. WobblePic requires OpenGL 3.3 support. If the problem persists, try running the app with the --verbose flag and check the log files in the logs/ directory for error details.
SAM2 model loading takes a long time.
The SAM2 model loads in the background when the app starts. This usually takes a few seconds depending on your hardware. You can start viewing and interacting with images immediately while the model loads — a "Loading SAM2 model..." overlay will disappear once it's ready.
My image won't open.
Make sure the file is in a supported format (JPG, JFIF, PNG, BMP, GIF, WebP, TIFF, AVIF, HEIC/HEIF). If the file is corrupted or in an unsupported format, WobblePic will skip it.
The wobble effect is too slow or laggy.
Performance depends on your GPU and image size. Try these steps: (1) Make sure your GPU drivers are up to date, (2) Close other GPU-intensive applications, (3) Try with a smaller image first to confirm it's not a hardware limitation. WobblePic adjusts mesh resolution automatically based on available GPU power.
AI Segmentation doesn't detect my object correctly.
SAM2 works best with clearly defined objects that have distinct boundaries from the background. Try clicking on different parts of the object, or try a different image. Complex scenes with overlapping objects or low contrast boundaries can be challenging for the model.
General
Is the source code open source?
WobblePic is freeware but not open source. You can use it freely, but the source code is not publicly available. See the License page for details.
Are mobile versions available?
Not yet, but they are on the roadmap! iOS and Android versions are planned for the future. macOS is already supported — see the Download page.
How are keyboard shortcuts different on macOS?
All keyboard shortcuts on macOS use Cmd instead of Ctrl (e.g., Cmd+C to copy, Cmd+V to paste, Cmd+B to toggle panel). macOS also supports trackpad pinch-to-zoom natively. The rest of the shortcuts (P for pin, Tab for panel focus, I for image info, etc.) work identically on both platforms.
Where can I report bugs or request features?
Please visit the GitHub Issues page to report bugs or suggest new features.
How does WobblePic compare to other image editors?
WobblePic isn't a traditional image editor — it's a physics-powered image viewer that lets you interactively wobble and jiggle pictures in real time. While tools like Photoshop or GIMP focus on editing pixels, WobblePic focuses on bringing images to life with soft-body physics simulation. It's a unique, fun way to interact with your photos.
Can I use WobblePic for commercial purposes?
Yes! WobblePic is free for both personal and commercial use. You can use it in presentations, social media content, educational materials, or any other commercial context. See the License page for full details.
How can I remove ads from WobblePic?
You can purchase an Ad-Free License for a one-time payment of $3. This removes all in-app advertisements and unlocks premium features like the directory tree and panel customization. Buy Ad-Free License ($3)
What premium features do I get with the Ad-Free License?
In addition to removing all ads, the Ad-Free License unlocks: a directory tree panel for navigating your entire drive structure, resizable panel width, and the ability to hide/show the panel with Ctrl+B.
